Aarjana Balami
Background: The girl’s mother was driven out of their home. She subsequently moved to Kathmandu with her three daughters and began working as a daily wage laborer. The mother later remarried and lived with her new husband, along with the girl. They have since had another daughter together. However, the girl faced mistreatment from her stepfather and his family; frequent conflicts occurred, and the stepfather began exhibiting inappropriate behavior and harboring malicious intent toward her. Sending her back to that household would pose a significant risk, necessitating protective intervention.
Although the girl has a strong desire and a need to pursue her education—which led her to leave her previous work—her current living situation makes continuing her studies extremely challenging. Consequently, she requires support and protection.
Current Status: On 2081-03-27, the girl, Ajana Balami, was admitted to the residential care facility at Asha Nepal. She was enrolled in Grade 6. As the environment at her home is unsuitable, she is unwilling to return. Given that her stepfather and his family mistreat her, and because the entire family resides in a single flat—making it impossible to find a suitable arrangement.
Due to the closure of Asha Nepal’s children's home and the difficulty in reuniting her with her family Asha Nepal legally handed over her to Children And Youth Mobilization Academy of Nepal (CYMA Nepal) for her psychosocial support, education, medical care, and general protection.
